R&S's 7th Cal/OSHA VPP Safety Recognition
Our jobsites are safer than others
All our jobsites run the same robust safety program, and on projects with longer schedules, we partner with Cal/OSHA Consultation to participate in their Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) - Construction. The VPP Construction program is a great opportunity to share our culture of safety and passion for building with the entire team while promoting teamwork with all jobsite stakeholders.
Our Cal State Los Angeles Physical Sciences project team was recently recognized with the VPP Construction certification. Amid constraints posed by the COVID crisis, the team was able to achieve certification in only 6 months—the second-fastest VPP certification process to date. As part of the program, R&S mentored seven trade contractors on the project to achieve their individual Golden Gate award for safety: Brand Scaffold Services, Kimble and Co. Fire Protection, A.J. Kirkwood & Associates, Nevell Group, XCEL Mechanical Systems, and Pan-Pacific Mechanical. Great teamwork!
The CSULA Project
The Cal State Los Angeles Physical Sciences, building 12, is an eight-story high-rise tower with two basement levels, totaling approximately 218,000sf. Constructed in 1972, the building housed lecture halls, classrooms, offices, labs, and two parking levels.
With a new name yet to be announced by Cal State LA, the upgraded building will be home to campus administration and student services. Phase 1 of the project kicked off in July 2017, with completion scheduled for August 2021.
